It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Juanita S. Thomas, who peacefully left us on May 15, 2024. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gust Washington Thomas, whom she married in 1988 and shared countless cherished memories until his passing in 2016.
Juanita was a devoted mother to her nine children: Mimi (Bill) Hillen, Ester (Charlie) Trivette, Richard (Cydi) Luna, Miquela Luna (Edward), Bob (Maria) Luna, David Luna, and Becky (John) McDoughn. She mourned the loss of sons, Sidney Luna and Randy Luna, her parents, Gil and Marcela Leal, as well as her brothers, Pete, Nick, and John Leal.
A nurturing grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, Juanita’s love extended far beyond her immediate family. Her dedication to providing for her loved ones was evident in her 46-year career in the grocery business—a testament to her unwavering work ethic and commitment.
Among Juanita’s fondest memories were the moments spent preparing Mexican meals for her children and engaging in friendly competitions—like the homemade bread contests with her son Richard during his youth. Her love for bowling brought joy and laughter to all who joined her on the lanes, as she reveled in the thrill of friendly competition.
Despite life’s challenges, Juanita’s strength and resilience shone brightly as she fearlessly ventured out with her nine children—an embodiment of unwavering determination and courage. Whether it was welcoming David home from his naval service or embarking on adventures with Miquela, Juanita’s spirit of exploration knew no bounds.
Her love for Western music and dancing reflected her vibrant personality and zest for life. Juanita's legacy lives on through the lessons she imparted to her children—the importance of discipline, respect, and above all else, unconditional love.
In honoring Juanita S. Thomas' memory, let us cherish the moments of laughter shared around the dinner table, the echoes of bowling victories won together as a family, and the enduring bond that unites us all. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the light she brought into our lives.
