Judith Elaine Koryta Bauman was born in Wilber, NE on May 5, 1933. She grew up in Wilber and later lived in Omaha, Lincoln, and Grand Island, NE. As a child she loved riding her horse, Chief, and playing with her collies and cats. She learned to fish and hunt with her father along the banks of Turkey Creek. Judy was married to Sidney Broz of Wilber, NE and was later remarried to Charlie Bauman of Grand Island, NE. She had four children, Jennifer, Christopher, Rosemary, and Eric. At their home in St. Libory, NE they sampled the pleasures of country life and dabbled in urban homesteading before it became trendy. Judy was a 4-H leader and participated in activities with her Extension Club, The Jolly Wives. Judy was also active in the Howard County Election Board and served on several school boards. She was a gifted cook, gardener, and seamstress and passed along her skills to her children and the 4-H clubs she worked with. Judy worked for the University of Nebraska's Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program, where she advised homemakers in Hall County on cooking, gardening, and meal planning to stretch household budgets. When Charlie retired in 1992, Judy and Charlie moved to Grand Junction, CO where they enjoyed western slope life with a backyard view of Mt Garfield and easy access to the Grand Mesa and the Colorado National Monument. They enjoyed numerous vacation trips around the southwest, making good use of Charlie's National Park Golden Eagle Pass. During her time in Grand Junction Judy also worked in group homes for Mesa County Developmental Services. After a decade in Grand Junction, Charlie and Judy moved to Denver to be closer to family. They lived at the Homestead Assisted Living facility in Lakewood and later at the Colorado State Community Living Center for Veterans at Fitzsimmons in Aurora. Charlie passed away in 2014. Judy enjoyed her cozy room at Fitzsimmons, reading her beloved Louis L'Amour books and enjoying old movies and westerns. She passed away quietly on Monday morning, May 16, 2016 with family at her side. Memorials are suggested to MaxFund Animal Adoption, Denver whose work was very near to Judy's heart.
