Judith S. Caughey, much loved by her family and many friends, died May 20 in Denver at the age of 85. Judy was witty and deep, loving and compassionate, interested and interesting. She took an amazingly genuine interest in what people around her did and said. She helped us all grow and revel in the wonderful world she saw every day. Judy was born in Denver on Jan. 14, 1928, to Amy and Robert Stearns. She graduated from Boulder High School. When she graduated from the University of Colorado in 1950, she was named Outstanding Senior Woman. After college she worked at Filene's Department Store in Boston and for public housing in San Francisco. She met her husband, Kenneth, at the University of Colorado and they married on Sept. 4, 1953. She was active in the CU Alumni Association and received the Alumni Recognition Award in 1975. Her father served as president of the university from 1939 to 1953. She enjoyed social activities with numerous groups including Monday Forum, Monday Literary Club, Chautauqua and Kappa Kappa Gamma. She played tennis and enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She also volunteered extensively, including serving as a ""Big Sister."" She and Ken enjoyed a loving marriage until his death on July 26, 2010. She also was preceded in death by her parents and sister Marion. She is survived by her sisters Amy and Barbara of Denver, sons Peter of Boulder and Bruce and David of Denver, and granddaughters Shannon and Julia. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, 1350 Washington St. in Denver.
