Judith Walters

October 11, 1943 — February 5, 2022

With family standing by, Judith Marie (MacLean) Walters, 78, died peacefully on the morning of February 5, 2022 at Renew at Saddle Rock Memory Care in Centennial, Colorado. Her husband of 57 years, Dennis Walters, passed three months earlier, most assuredly ushering her way to Paradise.

The daughter of an Air Force Master Sergeant, Judy was born at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC, and spent most of her childhood school-hopping from base to base. She graduated high school in Rapid City, South Dakota at 17 and enrolled in nurse’s training nearby, at St. John’s McNamara Hospital. In 1964, she completed her BSN to become an RN specializing in psychiatric care. Partying and good times were always part of her nature, and that’s how she met a tall skinny drink of water who made her laugh. Dennis had his sights set on two things – making her his wife and becoming a barber! They married in 1964 and headed to Denver, Colorado and their future together.

That future was very rich with Judy being a night supervisor at Mount Airy Psychiatric Hospital and Dennis ultimately owing his own barbershop. They raised two children, Elizabeth Marie and Steve Alan. After Mount Airy closed, Judy worked at both Bethesda and Fort Logan hospitals, ending her career as a nurse with Jefferson Hills Youth Center in Aurora, Colorado. She made many, many friends over the years and cherished those relationships. Retirement kept her busy with lunches, get-togethers, and volunteer work, including giving vaccinations and being a CASA (court-appointed special advocate).

Judith is survived by her daughter Lisa and son Steve (Suzanne); grandchildren Daniel and Zachary; brother Doug and sister-in-law Rita, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Curtis and Karen Walters; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A private memorial is being planned for the spring.
