Julie Hansen

November 26, 1953 — December 31, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Julie Ann Cota Hansen, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, in Aurora, Colorado, at the age of 71, surrounded by her loving children.

Julie was born on November 26, 1953, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Margaret Cota (née Allen) and John Cota. Her upbringing instilled in her a deep sense of kindness, resilience, and love for family that she carried throughout her life. She was proud of her Irish heritage, often celebrating the traditions and stories passed down through generations.

Julie grew up in Milwaukee, and was proud to call herself a diehard “Packer Backer.” She returned to Iowa to attend the University of Iowa, and was true to the Iowa Hawkeyes throughout her life. She then completed her studies at the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelors in Accounting.

Julie came to Colorado in 1980, putting down deep roots over the decades that followed. Wherever she lived, she found a community and left an indelible mark. Her professional career was spent as a CPA for the State of Colorado, a role she approached with dedication and integrity. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was an active and beloved member of Holy Love Lutheran Church in Aurora.

Her greatest joy and proudest achievement was being a mom. She raised her three children, Daniel Henry Hansen, Mary Kathleen Hansen, and Eric Vernon Hansen, with boundless love and devotion, and held her late daughter Elizabeth Marie Hansen in her heart with the same deep and unconditional love. Her family grew to include two cherished grandchildren, DeAngelo Robertson and Braden Robertson, whom she adored beyond measure.

Julie made everyone she encountered feel welcome and valued. She refused to harbor hatred, choosing instead to love freely and deeply. Her heart and home were havens for babies, dogs, and anyone in need of a warm hug or a listening ear. She brought people together with her generous spirit and open heart. A lover of history and a lifelong learner, she was delighted to share her knowledge and enthusiasm for the past with those around her.

Julie is survived by her children, Daniel, Mary, and Eric; her daughter-in-law Alice; her grandchildren, DeAngelo and Braden; her siblings, Daniel Cota and Kim Cota Jones; many nieces, great nephews and nieces; and countless friends and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents Margaret & Jack, her daughter Elizabeth, her sister Mary, and her brothers David and Teddy.

Her funeral service will be held at Holy Love Lutheran Church, 4210 S Chambers Rd, Aurora, CO 80014, on February 1, 2025 at 11:00 am. Reception to follow, also at Holy Love. All friends and family are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The Hansen family sends heartfelt thank you to everyone for their tremendous outpouring of love and support.
