Julie Ione Phelps

June 16, 1963 — February 2, 2017

Julie Ione Phelps, age 53, lost her battle with melanoma cancer and passed away peacefully on February 2nd, 2017 with her mother Ginger by her side. She was born Julie Ione Van Zee on June 16, 1963 in Huron, South Dakota to Delmar Van Zee and Virginia (Bezner) Van Zee. Julie is survived by her father Delmar, mother Ginger, sister Lizabeth and brothers Garry and Timothy. She is the youngest and no one has preceded her in death. Julie graduated from Miller High School in 1981 then moved to Denver at age 17 where she has resided since. She started work immediately upon coming to Denver for Mountain Bell Telephone, then with USWest. Julie married Lonny Phelps in 1991 then left USWest in 2000 to stay home with their kids Afton and Rhys. She was a dedicated hockey mom and gave her children numerous opportunities, catered to their busy schedule, and helped them explore new adventures. Julie was a caring person and always helped other people, not only just family and friends. Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home at their County Line Road facility. Services are scheduled for Denver on Wednesday February 8, 2017 as follows: Public Visitation 3:00pm - 4:15pm Celebration of Life 4:30pm - 5:30pm Reception 5:30pm - 7:00pm The address for the service is 5303 East County Line Road, Centennial, Colorado 80122. Julie's final resting place will be at GAR Cemetery in Miller, South Dakota. Services are tentatively scheduled for February 18th, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to your local pet shelter or cancer charity of choice. Julie will be greatly missed by all family and friends as she captured memories for all.
