June Carol Burns, 86, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2024, after a brief stay at St. Anthony North Hospital in Westminster, Colorado.
June was born in Nescopeck, Pennsylvania to Irvin and Elizabeth Haas. She was an administrative professional for many years at the Clarks Summit State Hospital and the Gino J. Merli Veterans’ Center in Scranton, PA. A longtime resident of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, June was a pillar of the community, always thinking more about the needs of others rather than herself.
June led a life of service from the start and no better example is her involvement in the Fresh Air Program. As a young mother, June would bring children from inner New York City into her home for a week so they could experience life outside of their neighborhoods and take in the beautiful outdoors in Northeast Pennsylvania. In addition, throughout her life, June was involved in the Clarks Summit Fire Auxiliary, local food pantries, the South Abington Parks and Recreation Committee, the Abington Heights Band and Football Boosters and many more organizations. She never missed an opportunity to donate blood.
June’s Catholic faith was of the utmost importance to her, and she gave back to Our Lady of the Snows Parish in countless ways. She was co-chair of the church bazaar on many occasions, enlisting her entire family in food preparation and the always popular fried dough booth. She also volunteered at Lazarus Lunches at the church and was always looking for more ways to help and live her life in the image of Jesus.
June had recently moved to Broomfield, Colorado and was enjoying living at Highland Trail Senior Living. She had made many great new friends and had developed a newfound passion for bingo.
She is survived by two children, two stepchildren and seven grandchildren, all of whom she would have done anything for. Her love for her family was without limits and existed unconditionally.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Horan & McConaty Funeral Service and Cremation, 9998 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Special Olympics in June’s honor. This cause was close to her heart for many years.
The family would like to express their gratitude to June’s many friends and former colleagues who have taken time to reach out. It serves as a confirmation of the wonderful woman she was in life and her spirit and guidance will continue to carry us forward. June will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
