June Dailey, 95, a long-time resident of Fort Lupton, passed away in Westminster on June 26, 2016. She was born June 18, 1921, to Ernest and Hazel Sauer, the oldest of their five children. After graduating from Fort Lupton High School, June attended Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, receiving a two-year certificate in rural education. While teaching in the St. Vrain School District, she met, Richard Dailey, whom she married on Feb. 11, 1945. They had two children, Myrna and Dick, before Richard passed away on April 11, 1949. With the support of her Fort Lupton extended family, June completed her four-year education degree and started teaching 2nd grade. Through the decades she touched the lives of generations of students. Her high expectations were paired with support and guidance. She taught a total of 40 years, 34 of those in Fort Lupton. Fort Lupton residents often saw June walking to and from school, an exercise she continued for most of the rest of her life, literally walking thousands of miles. Family was important. Gatherings brought special joy to June. Her grandchildren brought her much pleasure, and they benefitted from her wise words and example. June was a member of the Fort Lupton United Methodist Church, Chapter AZ of P.E.O., and Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Volunteer work included serving on the Weld County Area Agency on Aging, the Advisory Board for the Bonell Good Samaritan Center, the Fort Lupton Public Library, and the Eldergarten Day Care program. She delivered Meals on Wheels, and served as a reading tutor in the elementary schools. June moved to Broomfield in 2003, making new friends, enjoying lunch at the Senior Center, and joining a Broomfield United Methodist Women Circle. She never missed an opportunity to play bridge. In 2010 she moved to Sunrise Assisted Living in Westminster and transitioned to the Memory Care Cottage in 2014. She remained gracious and pleasant and was loved by her caretakers. She is survived by all of her siblings, Wanda Stockwell, Kay Penfold, Florence Horne and Everett Sauer; her two children, Myrna (Rod) Prentice and Dick (Caryn Hanson) Dailey; her 5 grandchildren, Mitchell (Sean Freiley) Dailey, Patricia Prentice, Tania Dailey Myers, Julia (Don Elmore) Prentice, and Patrick Hanson; and 2 great-grandchildren, Corinne Prentice Elmore and Adlai Prentice Elmore. Her extended family and her many friends will greatly miss this kind lady who found time to treasure each person she met. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, July 1, at the Fort Lupton United Methodist Church, 306 Park Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fort Lupton United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimer Association of Colorado.
