June was born in Oak Creek, CO to Andrew and Hulda Nix Rusk, who were Swedish immigrants from Narpes, Finland. She was the 4th of 7 children. She grew up in West Portal (Winter Park today), where she skied to school. Later her family moved to Denver, where June graduated from South High School and then went to work at Montgomery Wards on South Broadway. June married Lewis Maxson on February 12, 1942, in San Diego, CA, where Lewis was stationed in the military. Lewis became a pilot in the Air Force and June a military wife. Over their 74 year marriage, June lived in Texas, California, Florida and two tours in Germany. After Lewis retired from the Air Force in 1971, they have made their home in Lakewood. June is survived by her husband Lewis, and three children: Steven Maxson, Janet Maxson Lindley (James), and Elaine Maxson Rametta. She is also survived by five grandchildren: James Lindley, Adrien Lindley, Michael Lindley, Megan Lindley Jemison (Phillip) and Carrie Rametta. Nathan Rametta preceded her in death. June also has 2 great grandchildren, Vivian June Jemison and Phillip James Jemison. She also leaves a brother, Howard Rusk, and many nieces and nephews. June enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, traveling, playing card games, especially canasta, with her grandchildren, and china painting. She loved being in the mountains and had a great joy of fishing. She was also active in her church. June will be buried at Ft Logan. Memorials can be given to Concordia Lutheran Church.
