June Mildred Powell

June 26, 1921 — February 9, 2013

In Loving Memory June Mildred Powell, 91, passed away peacefully to Our Father's House surrounded by family on February 9, 2013. June was born in Spokane, Washington on June 26, 1921, to her parents Carl A. Carlson and Sigrid M. Carlson, who both immigrated from Sweden. She graduated from North Central High School and attended Kinman Business University in Spokane before meeting Jack Powell. They were married in Pueblo, Colorado, February 10, 1944, following his service in the US Army Air Corps in the Philippines during WWII. June and Jack raised five children while living in Spokane and Pullman, Washington, and Orofino and Lewiston, Idaho. She and Jack moved to Lewiston in 1969. Jack Powell passed away on July 25, 1988. June brought smiles and cheer to all she came in contact with. Whether she was playing bridge, enjoying a game of golf at the Lewiston Country Club or dancing at the local Fraternal Order of Eagles Club, June could always bring a smile to those around her. Her positive attitude was remarkable and contagious. She was always uplifting and had the unique ability of finding the ""good"" in everyone. June spent the last years of her life under tender loving care at the Golden Girls Manor in Lewiston, ID and then Colorado Lutheran Home in Arvada, CO where she spent her final days. She struggled with ulcerative colitis for the last 11 years of her life. June is survived by her five children Jack Michael of Tampa, FL, Douglas of Lewiston, ID, Marcia Searle, Broomfield, CO, Ralph of Castle Rock, CO, and Gary of Parker, CO. She is also survived by her brother Stan Carlson (89) in Spokane, WA, and sister Ruth Headstrom (93) in Spokane, WA. Her grandchildren include Michelle Carreker, Nicole Gries, Sarah Lynch, Dustin Searle, Kristen Gottschalk, Ryan Powell and Jonathan Searle, who live in Texas, Arizona, Colorado and Virginia. June's legacy includes three great-grandchildren – Abby and Max Lynch and Colton Carreker. She is also survived by several other loving nephews and nieces. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Foothills Community Church, 8270 W. 80th Avenue #2, Arvada, CO 80005 on February 19, 2013, at 2:00 PM. Her remains will be laid to rest next to Jack (her husband of 44 years) in Lewiston, Idaho, later this spring with a special graveside service. Notes or cards of condolence may be sent to 4626 Belford Circle, Broomfield, CO 80023. The family is asking that donations be sent to: Colorado Lutheran Home c/o Susan Black, 7991 W. 17st Avenue, Arvada, CO 80004 or Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America, Rocky Mountain Chapter, 1777 S.
