Karen Avonne Eastwood

June 12, 1952 — October 30, 2006

54, passed away peacefully at her home in Denver October 30, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Darrell Eastwood, for 31 years; and devoted mother of Kirsten. She is also survived by her mother, Evelyn Yingling of Greeley; sisters Johnna (Lou) Exner, Mona (Rick) Bywater and brother Kurt Yingling; and father and mother-in-law John and Frieda Eastwood. Karen was born in Denver June 12, 1952 to Raymond and Evelyn Yingling who raised her in Greeley. She graduated from Greeley Central High School in 1970 and went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Technical Journalism from Metropolitan State College. She married her high school sweetheart, Darrell, in 1975. Karen was devoted to giving back to our community through her hands-on volunteer work, primarily with non-profit children's organizations. She was an active member of the Kempe Children's Foundation Alliance and served as President. She also served as President of the Homesteaders, Family Homestead's Guild. She volunteered her time working at the Families First Center and was a member of Colorado Uplift Guild Board. Her life was full, devoting her organizational skills to raise funds and awareness for these charities. Karen was also passionate about her neighborhood and served two terms as the Orchard Valley HOA President. Karen's warm low key style allowed her to draw others to share her passion for a cause. She helped build leadership in the guilds and alliances she volunteered for. A memorial service to celebrate Karen's life will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 11:00 am at Fellowship Community Church, 6263 S. Parker Road, Centennial.
