Karen Johnson

Karen Johnson, 78, of Brighton passed away in June of 2021 at Good Samaritan Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Hildegarde (Petsche) Wolken. Karen married Larry Johnson on June 25th, 1961 and together they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage.

Karen raised 4 children, along with a large number of dogs and cats.

Karen was an avid homemaker, wife and mother.  Karen also enjoyed working part time in a dental office, knitting, reading, collecting recipes, baking, cooking, collecting, playing bingo, going to exercise class, sorting historical family photographs into many volumes of pictures, gardening and raising flowers with a collection of orchids along with several indoor trees in her sitting room.

Being a Colorado native Karen enjoyed touring the United States in their motor coach. Plus taking many trips with her grandchildren, attending Lake Region Thrashing Days in Dalton and visiting friends and cousins in Minnesota. She loved visiting Cadillac Mountain in Maine to see the first ray of sun striking the United States at sunrise, vacation times on their Lake Powell houseboat, visiting relatives in Kansas/Nebraska/Missouri and helping others without question. Karen was an avid conversationalist and enjoyed being with her friends and neighbors.

She will be remembered for her kindness and unconditional love.

In addition to her husband, Larry, she is survived by her children, Keith Johnson, Brian and Debbie Johnson, Ronell Johnson, Brenda (Johnson) and Aron McCorkle and grandchildren, Allison (Johnson) and Louie Pacheco, Elliot Esquivel, Andrew Esquivel, Bryce McCorkle, Kenedi McCorkle and one great-grandchild, Jaxon Pacheco.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at 9:30am at Horan & McConaty, 9998 Grant St. Thornton, CO 80229.

Memorial donations in Karen’s name may be made to: Donor Alliance, American Heart Association, and/or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
