Karen Kay Miller

October 9, 1948 — June 7, 2013

Karen Kay Miller was 64 when she passed away on Friday, June 7th, 2013 at Parker Adventist Hospital in Parker, Colorado. Karen was born October 9th, 1948 in Cherokee, Iowa and grew up near Peterson, Iowa on her family's farm. She graduated from Aurelia High School in Aurelia, Iowa in 1966. After high school she attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa where she met and married Wallace Young on June 21st, 1968. Karen and Wally had one child, Angela. Karen and Wally lived in a number of places including Iowa, California, Panama, and Oklahoma. While in Iowa City, Karen graduated from Dental School and became a successful extended duty dental assistant for many years. Karen and Wally were divorced in 1982. While in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Karen met her loving husband, Allen Lee Miller. They were together for many years before marrying June 5th, 1990. They moved from Tulsa in 1984 and spent the rest of her life in Aurora and Parker, Colorado. Karen was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Pearl Davis, her maternal grandparents, Ambrose and Elizabeth Heinis and her father, Dale Davis. At the time of her death, Karen was surrounded by her spouse Al Miller; her daughter and son-in-law Angela and Mark Morgan and their children, Grace and Grant; her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Grace Miller and their children, Anika and Josiah; her daughter, Lisa Miller and her children, Thomas, Jacob, Kolisa and Kamora and her loving mother, June Davis. Not in Colorado, Karen is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Theresa Davis (Spencer, Iowa) and their children, Chris (Florida) and Robin (Spirit Lake). Karen was dearly loved by her family and had a very large group of close friends. She primary went by ""Karen"" but was often referred to as ""Kate"" and ""KK"". She was extremely creative and did many types of artistic hobbies throughout the years but was most proud of her oil and watercolor paintings. She was an avid scrapbooker in which she spent endless time and energy on with her closest friends and family. Tight knit groups of people were where she spent much of her time such as her Beta Sigma Phi chapter and the ""Overboarders"" (a group she created for her avid scrapbook friends). She was enthusiastic, lively, funny and eternally cheerful…she had never met a stranger. Karen suffered from Multiple Sclerosis for nearly 20 years and did so with an unending sense of humor and grace. She died from complications arising from this disease. Two memorial services will be held to celebrate her amazing life.
