Karen died on Easter Sunday, April 20, at age 72. She was born in Cleveland, OH, on August 13, 1941, to Ardon and Doris Barnes. In 1957, her family moved to Denver where she attended and graduated from South High School in 1959. She attended the University of Denver, graduatin in 1964. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John; brothers Ardon, Brian and Duncan; daughter, Alison Springer Taylor (Eric); granddaughter Madeline; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Karen spent much of her adult like working tirelessly for non-profit organizations, whose causes were very dear to her heart. For many years, Karen was a member of the Colorado Chapter of the National MS Society and the board of the Colorado MS Auxiliary. During her time with the MS Auxiliary, Karen organized many fund-raising events, e.g. the annual MS ""Fall Fantasies"" ball. One of Karen's great achievements was her service to the Aurora Mental Health Center. She severed 10 years on the Board of Directors of the Center and was active on the Community Relations Committee. Karen was proudest of her work, from 1987-2013, as a founding member to the Aurora Vistas Foundation, which raises community awareness and funds to support programs for children and families being served by the Aurora Mental Health Center. Among her many Vista roles, Karen was a treasurer and secretary for the foundation. A Celebration of Karen's life will be held at the home she shared with her husband, John, on Saturday, May 31, 2014, beginning at 4:00 PM at 15394 East Monmouth Place, Aurora, Colorado 80015.
