Karen Therese Taylor, daughter of James M. and Marie Taylor, was born in Butte, Montana on March 10, 1962. Her early years were spent in Butte. The family moved to Powell, Wyoming in 1967. In 1969 the family moved again to Thornton, Colorado. Thornton remained Karen’s home for the rest of her life. Karen attended Thornton High School. She learned to play the clarinet and became a member of the Thornton High School Band. Karen graduated I 1980. Karen continued her love of playing her clarinet first, as a long-time member of The Denver Concert Band. When plans were announced to start the Thornton Community Band (TCB), Karen enthusiastically joined the first rehearsal on March 3, 2008. Karen played for almost 14 seasons with TCB. Some of her favorite performances were the 4th of July and Winterfest Concerts. Karen began her career with The State of Colorado, shortly after her high school graduation Karen worked for the Division of Insurance (DORA) Office downtown over 40 years. During the COVID quarantine Karen made the transition to working from that office to an office at home. Her goal was to retire at age 65. Karen loved to travel. She traveled with our parents. Attended music festivals in Europe with The Denver Concert Band. After Dad’s death, Karen continued to travel with Mom throughout the US, and Europe. One of their last trips together was to Spain. On her own, Karen traveled with a group to Cuba. Karen was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church her entire adult life. She played her clarinet at church services and she was a Eucharistic Minister. Karen’s other interests included live theater; she had season tickets to the DCPA and The Arvada Center for The Performing Arts. Karen was an avid reader; she loved a good mystery. Karen enjoyed summer concerts, Rockies Baseball Games, and she was a big Broncos fan. After our mother died, Karen remained in the family home. She loved planting flowers, yardwork and living on the street where she grew up. Karen is survived by her older siblings: Carol Taylor Boyd (John), Jo Ann Beegles (Ken), Jim Taylor (Connie), Nancy Taylor and Dan Taylor (Kim), numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
