Karl Johns Plym, 76, of Lakewood, Colorado, beloved husband of Chris Plym, brother of Alberta David, uncle of Karen Sear, Mary Jane, Katherine and David Plym, grand uncle of William and Hannah Sear released this earthly life on Dec. 29, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. Karl was born in Denver, Colorado on July 8, 1933 to John Edward Plym and Helen Johns Plym. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Edward Plym. He was raised in a loving Catholic family. He attended the parish grammar school at St John the Evangelist Church. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1952. He was drafted into the Army shortly thereafter and served mainly in Germany. He attended the University of Colorado pursuing a dual major of architect and engineer. In his twenties, Karl was known for his skiing. Always a lover of the outdoors, he was an avid sportsman in his early and middle years. He loved bicycling and dancing. Later in life, he pursued his greatest loves â fly fishing and photography. Karl was a real estate broker during most of his working years. He pursued both residential and commercial real estate deals â and truly loved the challenge and opportunities presented in this line of work. Karl continued to pursue 'the deal' up to 2007. Karl loved his nieces and nephew. There is no doubt that he paid lots of attention to those 'kids'. He participated in their early childhood years and later â teaching them sports, play, fun, children games, but most of all â a love of life and the outdoors. He will be remembered for his gentleness of spirit, his warmth and his humor. In 1995, he married Christina Derrick MacMillan Plym âhis first and only wife. They had many fun filled years of romance, good friends, travel and building a life together. Karl informally adopted Chris' son, Michael MacMillan, as his step son â Karl took Michael under his wings and taught him many of the sage life lessons and skills that he shared with many others. Karl will be remembered for his love of his family, his love for Chris, and his love of life. He centered his life on family first. He enjoyed travel, classical music, history, computers and software, and well as his hobbies. He pursued many home improvement projects (which were very professional) â and loved teaching others any skill he might have. He was an anchor for the Plym and Derrick families â providing love and support in so many ways. He loved to develop new friendships, learn new skills and pursue new ideas his whole life. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Mile Hi Church of Religious Science, 9077 W. Alameda Ave. Any memorials should go to the Denver Hospice or the fly fishing club of your choice. Please share your thoughts condolences and memories at www.horancares.com.
