Katherine (Kathy) Mary Fladen, age 72, died on May 7, 2022 surrounded by her loving family at The Denver Hospice at Lowry.
She was born on June 16, 1949 in Escanaba, Michigan. She was the daughter of Louis and Shirley (Bruce) Gasman. She would have celebrated 54 years of marriage with her husband, Gene H. Fladen, on July 27th of this year.
Kathy began her career as a dental assistant and then decided to go down a different career path attending nursing school at Western Wisconsin Technical Institute in the late 1970's. Kathy became a registered nurse and retired after 43 years in that profession. Kathy primarily worked the night shift her entire career so that she could be at home with her girls during the day. She loved to care for people and was an amazing nurse. Kathy was also an avid bowler. She bowled for almost 50 years and was very involved with running the leagues. Kathy loved to travel, play cards and Mexican Train, shop and gamble. One thing that Kathy was most known for was having her annual Christmas Bingo party. She also loved watching the Denver Broncos on Sundays.
Everyone that knew Kathy would say that she was one of the most generous and caring people they had ever met. Kathy loved life and loved her family more than anything, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed supporting all of her grandchildren in their activities which included basketball, football and gymnastics. She also was an animal lover and had many pets over the years, most recently her sweet kitty kitty. Kathy fought a long and courageous battle with cardiomyopathy. She was diagnosed in 1991, had many surgeries and procedures, and valiantly managed the disease with medication until she passed away.
She is survived by her husband Gene Fladen; her children, Lisa Marie Fladen and Christiana Lynn Fladen; grandchildren: Marsellus, Ty and Tristan Robinson all of Aurora, CO; a brother Clint Gasman of Parker, CO, a sister Deana (Mark) Winter of Sun Prairie, WI and many other dear friends and family. Katherine was proceeded in death by her parents.
Memorial services will be held at Horan & McConaty, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave, Aurora, CO 80014 on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 10 am followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Denver Hospice, 8299 E. Lowry Blvd, Denver, CO 80230, where Kathy received the most wonderful care or the Food Bank of the Rockies, 10700 E. 45th Ave. Denver, CO 80239.
