Katherine Petso lost her battle with Alzheimer’s on April 12, 2023 after a serious fall and short hospice care.
Katherine was born in Gary, Indiana to Steve and Alexandra Janzou. Katherine was a “Tom Boy” who used to play sports including football with the neighborhood boys when she was a young girl. She graduated from Lew Wallace High School in Gary and married Thomas Petso a year later. Katherine enjoyed spending time with relatives and friends, laughing, tennis, theater, movies, shopping, board games, food, and travel. After 20 years of marriage and raising children, she decided to go to college and graduated from Purdue University Calumet. Later, she went to the Players Workshop at Second City in Chicago where she did improv for a children’s program. Katherine also loved acting; she was in several plays in rural Michigan in the 1970’s and at Purdue Calumet during college.
Katherine is predeceased by her husband Thomas Petso and parents Steve and Alexandra Janzou. She is survived by her daughter Lexi (Mike) Hutto, Steve (Wade Wyckoff) Petso, grandchildren Julie (John) Mercado, Chris (Christie) Hutto, Steven Hutto, 4 great-grandchildren, brother Michael (Mary) Janzou, niece Lisa (Jack) Swift, sister-in-law Marilou (Pete) Hendel, aunt Hionoula Papakosmas, and many loving cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 4, 2023,4pm-6:30pm, followed immediately by service at 6:30pm, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd, Denver. Burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area A at 11am Friday, May 5, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Katherine’s memory.
