Kathleen Carol ""Katie"" Kurdy

December 24, 1948 — July 4, 2019

On Thursday, July 4, 2019 Kathleen Carol Kurdy, loving wife of George Kurdy, passed away at the age of 70.

Katie was born on December 24, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois to Frank and Florence Seery. After attending Sacred Heart of Mary high school in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, she had a diverse career as a paralegal, postal worker, census taker, heavy equipment seller, artist, and waitress in fine dining establishments. On April 30, 1994 Katie married George Anthony Kurdy in Carefree, Arizona. Her husband's career in the oil industry lead to the couple living in many locations, including Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and Caracas, Venezuela. The couple retired to their home in Katy, Texas in 2012.

Katie had a passion for people and made close friendships wherever she went. In Ponca City, Houston, Lake Charles, and Caracas she was active in Newcomers and was always either shopping, dining, or going to the beach with the girls.

She loved to travel the world and made that a priority throughout her life, which is why she had such a varied work life. Katie collected art from all over and would paint a bit occasionally herself. She loved golf and played when she was able.

Living in Venezuela in 1998, Katie's true self shown through. Tearful and a bit fearful at first, she soon adapted to the new conditions. While her husband worked during the day, Katie was isolated alone in a luxury apartment. She would have to schedule our driver, Antenor, if she wanted to go out. But she soon made friends in the ex-pat community, including ladies who drove locally and who spoke Spanish. She also persuaded her Spanish tutor, Maria, to take her shopping twice a week for her ""lessons"". The only Spanish word she learned was cenicero - ash tray. Soon she was organizing luncheons, trips to the pool at the Hotel Tamanaco, shopping excursions, and a surprise birthday party for her husband. She collected paintings from street painters, Murano and Crystal Art glass figures, and many other items. Memories include the 4th of July celebration at the American Embassy and the Marine Corps Birthday Ball in downtown Caracas.

Katie was a breast cancer survivor and suffered from diabetes in her later years. She was a fighter to the end.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Rusty. She is survived by her husband George, her brothers Richard Seery and John Seery, her sisters Mary Sparling and Patricia Lach, niece Jessica Sparling, nephew and Godson Andrew Sparling, and many cousins.
