Kathleen "Kathy" Shirley Routhieaux Schuessler, 83, was born on December 17, 1939 in Green Bay, Wisconsin and passed away on June 7, 2023 in Denver, Colorado.
Kathy grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin, except for when her father moved them to California during World War II to help with the war effort. They moved back to Green Bay in 1946 and she graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1957.
Kathy first met John Schuessler while working for McDonnell Aircraft Corporation in St. Louis, Missouri. She was working in the Security Records office for the company, where she met John, an engineer working on aerospace projects. They were married in 1966, and moved to O'Fallon, Missouri. As John's role in the Space Program evolved, he was transferred to Houston, Texas in 1973. There, they lived in Clear Lake where they raised their children and furthered their education. Kathy earned her B.S. degree in Behavioral Science from University of Houston Clear Lake in 1979.
Kathy and her husband John would have celebrated their 57th anniversary on July 9th, 2023.
Kathy was active in her community and dedicated herself to her family and to helping others. She spent many years volunteering with the Meals on Wheels program in Clear Lake and was known by many for her kindness, compassion, and eagerness to help. Kathy was a talented artist, painter, and an avid photographer, with a passion for capturing memories for friends and family She was active in her Baha'i community and served the faith in many ways. Kathy and John moved to Colorado in 1997, as John was retiring from McDonnell Douglas (Boeing) so Kathy would be able to care for their grandchildren, and where she ran the MUFON headquarters office for six years. Kathy was a dedicated caregiver for granddaughters Ashlyn and Alanna and grandson Rowan. She loved flowers, collecting, baking, reading, building puzzles and Legos. A loving and dedicated wife, caring mother and grandmother, her kindness and care for others permeated her life and touched all who knew her.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Shirley and Austin Routhieaux; her brother Robert Routhieaux. She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband, John Schuessler; daughter Kelly Scullion and husband Chris, son Steven Schuessler and partner Virginia, daughter Barbra Schuessler Sobhani and husband James, son John J. Schuessler and wife Brenda, Nathan Schuessler, Dewaynn Schuessler and wife Charlotte, Rev. Mitch Schuessler and wife Penny; grandchildren Rhys Conabree, Lachlan Conabree, John Ross Schuessler, Andy and Alli Schuessler, Rachael and Brandon Beckemeyer, Matthew and Chelsey Schuessler, Ashlyn Maher and partner Jacob Toman-Ibarra, Alanna Maher, Rowan Maher; niece Cheri; nephew Rob; great-grandchildren, Mylo and Makenzie.
A family burial will be held at Ft. Logan Cemetery in Denver, Colorado on June 15, 2023.
