Kathleen Maley Schuster, 51, Pine, died Thursday, May 17, 2007. Born May 29th, 1955 in Salina, Kansas, she was the youngest child of William "Pat" and Mary Elizabeth Maley. She was a real estate broker, the second half of TomKat Homes Inc., the business in which she was a partner with her husband Tom Schuster. Kathleen graduated from Metropolitan State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. From 1981 to 1993, she worked with the Economic Development Agency of Denver, and was instrumental in the design and startup of The Denver Business Revitalization Program. Her title was Economic Development and Marketing Specialist. She built a solid foundation for the program and it is still successful today. In fact, if you enjoy spending afternoons or evenings dining or window-shopping around 32nd and Lowell Boulevard, South Broadway, Five Points, or the Elitch's neighborhoods, you can thank her for being a part of their renewal efforts. Denver's historic preservation is one part of the legacy she leaves behind. In the mid-nineties, she made a big career change and left the city for the private sector, earning her real estate license and enjoying great success in both the residential and commercial market. She was always sensitive to and a big supporter of "underdog" businesses, giving them a leg up whenever she could. And though she received many awards and commendations throughout her real estate life, Kathy was the last person to ever flaunt her achievements. She measured her success by how well she helped others. Kathy is survived by her husband, Tom Schuster, her son Sean O'Ray of Phoenix, Arizona, and Lucy and Chulo, her and Tom's beloved dogs who were their constant companions. The family will receive friends Monday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Horan and McConaty funeral home, and a Memorial Service will follow.
