Kathy Sweeney, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 31, 2021 at Littleton Adventist Hospital. She was born to Hazel and William Fitzgerald and had an older sister, Patricia Fitzgerald Graham. Kathy married Edward Sweeney in 1960 and they were blessed with 56 years together before his death in March 2017. Kathy attended Loretto Heights College in Denver and was an X-ray technician before becoming an international flight attendant.
Kathy and Ed moved to Evergreen, Colorado in 1971. They were very involved members in the community and made countless lifelong friends. Kathy and Ed belonged to both Hiwan Golf Club and The Denver Country Club, where they enjoyed golf, tennis, and socializing.
In 1994, they moved to the Stoney Brook neighborhood in Denver. At this time, Kathy became a docent at the Denver Art Museum and a leader of the Children’s Worship at Risen Christ Catholic Parish.
After Ed’s passing, Kathy moved to Holly Creek Retirement Community where she enjoyed making new friends and reconnecting with old. A big fan of bridge, she was part of several bridge groups and adored playing with friends.
Described as “full of grace and class, with just a pinch of sass” Kathy made a lasting impression on everyone. She had a special gift for making people feel loved, seen, and heard. Her contagious smile and gentle way touched many lives.
Kathy is survived by her four children: Nancy Salamunovich (husband Thomas), Mark Sweeney (wife Kirsten), Bridget Dornbirer (husband Dave), and Timothy Sweeney (wife Renee) as well as 12 grandchildren and sister-in-law Loretta McCoy.
