Kathryn A. McFarlen

July 16, 1941 — December 24, 2010

Kathryn Ann (Hohn) McFarlen, 69, of Castle Rock passed away on December 24, 2010. She is survived by her husband Gary; children Tim, Mike & Katie (Scott) Daigle; grandchildren Ryan Olivia & Carter Paul Daigle; and her sister Mary Kay Matzkanin. She was born to Lydia Theresa (Roeder) and Charles John Hohn in Powers Lake, North Dakota on July 16, 1941. Kathy spent her youth growing up in Stanley, North Dakota and working with her father and sister, Mary Matzkanin, at the town drug store owned by her father, Hohn Drug. Kathy attended the University of North Dakota and was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority, graduating in 1963. Following college, she was a speech therapist in Sheboygan Wisconsin. In 1964, she made the decision to move to Minneapolis, Minnesota to continue her career as a speech therapist. At this point, Gary McFarlen, an acquaintance and life-long friend re-emerged on the scene and began dating Kathy. As fate would have it, Kathy and Gary married on August 14, 1965. Exactly two years later, on their second wedding anniversary, Timothy Charles McFarlen was born. The family was blessed two more times with the births of Michael Damon, and Kathryn LeAnn in 1970 and 1971, respectively. In 1998, Kathy warmly welcomed Scott Ramsey Daigle to the family, when after years of dating he proposed to, and married Kathryn ""Katie"" Leann McFarlen. Katie and Scott went on to expand the family by giving birth to Ryan Olivia Daigle in 2001 and Carter Paul Daigle in 2003. The family moved from Minnesota to Washington, then back to Minnesota and would eventually spend time in Texas, Colorado, Tennessee, Wyoming, and Arizona. Kathy and Gary wrapped up their working careers and quickly embraced the retirement lifestyle, spending time divided between their homes in Castle Rock, Colorado and Mesa, Arizona. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, January 3, 2011, 10:00 a.m., with Reception following, both at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2746 Fifth Street, in Castle Rock, Colorado. Interment follows at 1:00 p.m., at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 880 East Wolfensberger Road, in Castle Rock, Colorado.
