Keith Edmond Common

January 26, 1931 — December 24, 2007

Keith was born in Minnesota to his mother Ina and father George Common. He spent most his childhood moving around North Dakota due to his father's work with Standard Oil. He grew up with his older brother Miles. As a child, Keith loved playing baseball and hockey. He lost his mother at a young age and his father remarried. The rest of his childhood, Keith was raised by his step-mother Hazel. He developed a love for hunting and fishing. As an adolescent, Keith watched his brother go off to war and tracked the progress of the Second World War. Keith became a sergeant in the United States Army serving his country during the Korean War as an artillery fire direction instructor. After the war, Keith used the GI bill to attend the University of North Dakota. While there, he met his best friends Doug Dunahay and Don Mercy. As a college student, Keith also met a young woman from northern Minnesota, Inez Oien, whom he married. A short time later, Keith and Inez had two daughters Leslie and Wendy. Keith started his career in insurance. He was encouraged by college buddies Doug and Don to move to the Denver area. So he packed up and moved his wife, two young daughters and new baby boy Tom to Littleton, Colorado. After working for insurance companies, Keith ventured out with his partner Dick Rohr and started his own independent insurance agency. When his daughters became teenagers, Keith was known to strike fear into their dates (some even reported nightmares). He was a handy man who completed many projects around the house. This included go-carts and children's furniture. Keith later turned that passion into a job when he sold his insurance agency to his partner and started the neighborhood rental store Common Rents. With his daughters married and starting their own families and his son a college student at the University of Colorado, Keith and his wife Inez were able to work together running the rental store. Keith became a grandfather when Leslie and her husband Jeff Leeper had Bryan and later Kevin. Two more grandchildren were added shortly after by the birth of Mathew and then Spencer to his daughter Wendy and her husband Gary Leisy. Tragically, Leslie was lost in a car accident. He then gained two more grandchildren, Kelsey and Blake, from his son Tom and wife Lettie. Keith lost his wife of 39 years when Inez was taken by cancer. He later sold the rental business that had grown to two locations. He continued to work as a manufacture's representative for various tool lines. In 1999, Keith married Jackie Mercy and entered retirement. They enjoyed trips to their condo in Minnesota. Fishing and woodworking became his passions. Keith Common, 75, of Littleton. Husband of Jackie. Father of Wendy (Gary) Leisy, Thomas (Lettie) Common. Preceded in death by Wife Inez Common & Daughter Leslie Leeper.
