Kenneth Sidney Blancett

December 13, 1924 — January 21, 2012

Born on December 13, 1924 in Trousdale, Oklahoma, he was the oldest son of Ralph and Ethel (York) Blancett. He served in the US Navy during WWII onboard the heavy cruiser, U.S.S. Chester, as a Radar Technician from June, 1943 to March 1946, rising to the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class. The U.S.S. Chester saw action in many battles in the Pacific, including Tarawa, Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After the war he went to the University of Oklahoma where he earned a Petroleum Engineering Degree with a Minor in Geology. Then he earned his Master's Degree in Reservoir Engineering at Texas A&M University. After graduating he married his college sweetheart, Iris Lavonne (Ferguson) of Ponca City, Oklahoma on April 3, 1953. He worked for Kewanee Oil Company in the U.S. and Canada for over twenty years. He then became a partner in Hudson Consultants before moving to Denver in 1974 to work for Petro-Lewis Corporation as a Senior Vice President, where he retired in 1984. He passed away on January 21, 2012. Kenneth is survived by his wife Iris, of 58 years, their sons Craig, John, Kevin and Scott and daughter Sara and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as two brothers in Oklahoma City, Ed and Sam. He was a member of Littleton United Methodist Church for over thirty years and was proud of his family, work achievements and military service. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Littleton United Methodist Church, 5894 South Datura Street in Littleton. Memorial donations may be made in Kenneth's name to The Rocky Mountain Alzheimer's Association, 455 Sherman Street, #500, Denver, Colorado 80203.
