Kenneth Wayne Borquez

March 9, 1953 — November 2, 2023

Kenneth (Kenny) Wayne Borquez, 70, of Westminster, Colorado, passed away on November 2, 2023, in Aurora, CO.  Kenny was born on March 9, 1953, in Denver, Colorado, to parents James M. and Donna R. Borquez.

Kenny is survived by his father, James, and four siblings, Michele Miller, Sharon Mead (Andy), Gerald Borquez and Lori Heiliger (Brian Matte).  He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Donna (Leiker) Borquez, brother, James Thomas (Tommy) Borquez, and brother-in-law, Mark Miller.  Kenny is also survived by four nephews and two nieces, Jeremy Miller, Ryan Miller, Brian Mead, Christopher DiRubio, Julia (Miller) Carmosino and Megan Heiliger.

Kenny graduated from Westminster High School, Westminster, CO in 1971.  The following fall, he began his degree at the University of Colorado in Boulder.  In 1973, Kenny enlisted in the Army.  Fortunately, at that time the Vietnam war was de-escalating.  After boot camp at Ft. Polk (now known as Ft. Johnson), LA, he was stationed at Bad Kissingen, Germany, where he quickly achieved the rank of Sergeant and Tank Commander.  He was honorably discharged in December of 1976.  After leaving the Army, he began employment with the Federal Center in Lakewood, CO, where he stayed until he left to work in the family business, Borquez Excavating.

Astronomy was Kenny’s lifelong hobby.  He was a daily contributor to the internet astronomical community forum, Cloudy Nights.  For many years, his extensive astronomical knowledge was shared and revered by a multitude of Cloudy Nights members.  Kenny’s other passion was classic movies and classic movie scores – two other subjects in which his knowledge was off the charts.
