Kenneth Morgenson

May 14, 1934 — January 6, 2022

Crowley, TX

Kenneth Loren Morgenson passed away January 6, 2022 following a stroke. He was 87 years old and living in Crowley, Texas where he had moved to in 2016, just down the street from his youngest daughter.

He was born May 14, 1934 in Salina, Kansas to Carroll and Ruth Morgenson. He has 3 brothers; Ted, David and Doug. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Yorktown and followed its history for the rest of his life, even returning to see it again in his later years. He married Mary Rehling in 1954 and together they had 4 children; Nancy, Brenda, Brien and Lisa. He always worked in construction doing foundation work as well as general remodeling. As kids, we all knew Dad could build or fix anything and did our best to help him! He was patient with his young apprentices but always made sure we returned his tools. He carefully cared for them and still had some he bought while he was in high school and everything he had still works. Moving a home was very easy compared to moving his garage. He loved old cars and in his free time, he restored a 1954 Mercury.

The family moved to Crested Butte, Colorado in the early 60’s when Ken bought the Elk Mountain Lodge. Crested Butte was the perfect place for kids as it was an outdoor haven and we spent as much time as possible exploring until his work took us to Colorado Springs a few years later. Dad got us a go-cart in the mid 60’s that we would run up and down the hill by our house. One day, Lisa, the youngest, took off so fast that Dad took off after her to slow her down. We never saw him run so fast! She got to the bottom of the hill, did a perfect u-turn and passed him on her way back up. The go-cart disappeared soon after that. Us kids suspected Mom!

He married his 2nd love, Elaine Meilinger, in 1975. She had 3 children; Lainie, Leeann and Kevin. Elaine studied music growing up and we all loved to hear her sing. She sang professionally for a number of years under the name Lainie Leigh. They moved to Sun City, Arizona in the early 80’s where he became a General Contractor with a very busy remodeling business. They were both avid golfers and spent much of their free time golfing with their friends. His hobbies also included model planes, trains and cars and he collected many in the following years.

They returned to the Denver area in 2005, where they remained until Elaine passed away in 2015. Ken is survived by his 3 brothers, 4 children, 3 step children, 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
