Kenneth William Neudeck

February 7, 1921 — February 21, 2009

Kenneth Neudeck dedicated his adult life to the service of others, beginning with his career in the Air Force to taking on leadership positions in numerous volunteer organizations including Sertoma, Civil Air Patrol, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Born in New York City, he earned his BS in engineering from Yale University where he was also commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Later, he earned a masters degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Colorado. Although qualified as an Olympic bicycle racer, the start of WWII cancelled the competitions. Ken met Betty Ann Watt, his bride of 65 years, at a social gathering held at the Brown Palace Hotel. The two married three months later beginning a pattern of numerous moves throughout the country and travels around the world separated by a world war, the Korean War, and numerous TDYs. Upon retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, they returned to Colorado, Betty's home, where they spent the best 30 years of their life together. Ken's interests included the Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing, the Alfa Romeo Car Club, Civil War history, baseball, barbershop singing, and playing the trumpet. His children K. Michael; Dr. Marilyn (Mike) Neudeck-Dicken; and Nanette (Paul) Gefreh held a high place of honor in his life, and he derived great joy from his grandchildren: Sean, Mark Gefreh, and Tasha Gefreh. In honor of Ken's service to others, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Legion George C. Evan Post #103. The Post will utilize any contributions for Girls' and Boys' State Programs and the Oratory Contest sponsored by the Post—activities that Ken supported and promoted. Although Ken will be missed by many, it is our hope that his spirit of service will continue through these programs. Contributions can be sent to the Post at P.O. Box 281, Littleton, CO 80120.
