Kevin Kassner, 80, passed away at home on March 10, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.
Kevin was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman growing up and into adulthood. He passed his love of hunting and fishing to his children and grandchildren. He loved the outdoors and being active, from water and snow skiing, to playing golf as well. Kevin truly enjoyed just being outdoors.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Pauline, sons Shawn and Kevin (Kyla); daughters Shelly Yslas (Rudy), Christine Eakins (Brian), and Rebecca Warren (Heath); step sons Frank and Michael Martinez; step daughters Nicole Potter (Adam) and Tammie Martinez; and brother Michael (Rosemary). He was also survived by 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, all of whom are quite active. Kevin is predeceased in death by his sister, Kay (Pat) Stadtherr.
Kevin was a passionate funeral director, serving families in Iowa and Colorado for 50 years. He was a graduate of the Worsham College of Mortuary Science and began serving families in 1966 at Oppold Funeral Home in Waterloo, Iowa.
In 1971, Kevin moved from Iowa to the Denver metro area, and worked as a managing Funeral Director at Olinger Mortuary at 29th and Wadsworth from 1971- 1983. He worked at Green Funeral Home, in Bellevue, Washington for a short time and then returned to Colorado. Upon his return, he was offered a position as a funeral director by John Horan, who was searching for funeral directors as passionate about funeral service as himself to build Horan & McConaty Funeral Service.
Kevin worked for John Horan for over 22 years before retiring his full time position as a managing Funeral Director. He continued to work for Horan & McConaty Funeral Service part time for another year and a half as a co-director before finally retiring due to health issues in May 2015.
Kevin's visitation will be held Monday, March 16, 5 pm - 8 pm at Horan & McConaty Funeral Service, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada, Colorado. Funeral Service, Tuesday, March 17, 11 am at Arvada Covenant Church, 5555 Ward Road, Arvada, Colorado.
