Knute Glenn Nelson, 55, of Denver, CO, unexpectedly passed away on February 12, 2022, due to a heart attack while skiing, one of the things he loved the most in one of his favorite places. He was perfect. He was and always will be immensely treasured. Uff da.
Knute was born on December 2, 1966 to Glenn & Solveig Nelson in Decorah, Iowa. After Knute graduated from Decorah High School, he went on to study physics at Gustavus Adolphus College.
Though he loved math and physics, after graduating, the mountains called, he skied and worked “for a year” in Colorado and decided it was home. He then built a successful business, one that allowed for him to enjoy his other passions. Like Knute often said, “Most fun wins”.
In 2003, Knute met his future wife, Kristie. After getting married, Knute and Kristie had their much-loved daughter, Hana. She was the greatest joy of his life and he loved being a father more than anything. He was literally the best father. Knute was always there for her, whether it was teaching her to hunt (he was “expert” level!) or helping her with middle school math!
After selling his business last year, he looked forward to spending more time doing his favorite pursuits of hunting and fishing. He was also looking forward to having more time to travel with his beloved family. He was even considering starting a new business with his “famous” crack sauce for chicken wings. There truly wasn’t anything that Knute couldn’t do, he was a genius. He had so many plans. We had so many plans. He wanted to “Have the good fun.”
Knute was predeceased by his mother, Solveig and brother-in-law Marvin VanCamp. He is survived by his loving wife, Kristie and daughter, Hana, along with his father Glenn and his wife Jane, brother Leif (Ann) Nelson, sisters Karina VanCamp, Karla (John) Balk, his aunts Krestie Utech and Imogene Nelson, several cousins, 10 nieces and nephews, their spouses and children. To say that his family and friends will miss him greatly is an understatement. The imprint he left on our hearts exceeds the quantity of time he stayed here.
Please join us on Saturday, May 14th at the Nelson home from 11am-2pm for a Celebration of Life for Knute, with a light lunch.
Afterward, please feel free to gather at SunnySide Supper Club located 2915 W 44th Avenue, Denver, CO 80211. Appetizers will be provided between 3:30 & 5:30 for "happy hour" and there will be a cash/card bar.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The American Heart Association, Ducks Unlimited or The Alzheimer's Association.
