Kristie was known to many people by many different names: Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Mother, Grandma and Friend. She started her dash on August 12, 1954 to John and Bertha Kechter in Bridgeport, Nebraska. She was the youngest of four children with 3 older brothers, John, David and Kenny. From Bridgeport they moved to Sydney, Nebraska and later to Thornton, Colorado where she enjoyed her young days of growing up. She attended Thornton High School where she met Big Al. After a whirlwind romance they were married on June 21, 1974. Shortly after getting married they started their family with the birth of their first child, Patricia Ann (Dad's first and last argument that was won), soon after Little Al and David were born. In 1977 Al and Kristie moved to a small farming community where they raised their family. They became very active in the community through their children's sporting activities. Kristie worked for a short time at Lowry Air Force Base as a civil service clerk. She was medically retired and became a full time homemaker. She enjoyed the simple pleasure of watching her children play at their sporting events, playing Bingo twice a week and almost completing her crafts. In 1994 their oldest daughter blessed Al and Kristie with their very first grandchild, Austin. As great of parents that Al and Kristie were, they were even more amazing grandparents. Austin was followed by Jacob, Emili, McKenzie, Gus, Sophia, Wyatt and a bun in the oven. Kristie and Al cherished moments admiring their grandchildren grow. In the final part of her dash she never skipped a moment to spend time with her grandchildren, even if her own kids scolded her for jumping on the trampoline with them. Kristie was a woman of enormous understanding and was always there to lend an ear. You could tell her any kind of problem you were having and she would be there just listen or even give advice (usually the right advice). She had a heart as big as the world and always treated everyone the way she was taught...Treat everyone as you would want to be treated...and she held true to that every day of her life. She never excluded anyone even if you were on the naughty list. When talking to everyone about her this past week, everyone kept saying they couldn't remember a bad memory of her and that all you can do is smile when you remember what a loving and giving woman she was. She completed her dash on the 3rd of December 2009 and was preceded in death by her husband, Big Al; her son, Little Al; her parents, John and Bertha Kechter; her two brothers, Kenny and Dave. She is survived by her brother, John; daughter and son in law, Patti and Dave, son and daughter in law David and Rebecca, and her puppies Sis and Annie. To everyone here, I know Kristie would be very grateful for you coming today and spending this time with us. Her children would also like to pass a very sincere thank you for everyone's support through these long and difficult times. A memorial service will be held 2PM, Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009 at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel.
