Kristin W. Louden

July 1, 1941 — June 14, 2019

Kris Louden was a birder, singer, Quaker, master gardener, and had many other interests.

She died on June 14, 2019.

The memorial service for Kris Louden will be held at the Mountain View Friends Meeting House (2280 S Columbine St, Denver, CO 80210) on July 6, 2019 at 3 pm. It is expected to last about one and a half hours. The Colorado Choir will provide music before and after an hour-long unprogrammed Quaker meeting. After an account of Kris’ life prepared by the family, attenders will sit in silence and wait for ideas to well up from that spark of the divine that is within each of us, sharing them in spoken ministry when so moved. It is customary to allow some time between individuals sharing messages. Light refreshments will be available after the Quaker service.

Kris loved animals, sewing, knitting, classical music, calligraphy, art, French, reading, and travel. She was politically active and was a pacifist. She gave to many causes, including the Audubon Society and environmental causes. She appreciated Godiva chocolates and inexpensive wine. She remained active to the end, going to the gym, taking French classes, running committees, and singing in the Colorado Choir.

Her husband of 56 years is Dick Louden.

Kris is also survived by her daughter (Becka), her son (Michael), daughter-in-law (Diana), and granddaughter (Emily Louden).

She had a cat named Emma.

How Did She Die?

She did not know, nor did any of her family and friends, that she had hardened arteries, which posed a health risk. Her husband discovered her on the back porch of their house, slumped in a chair. She was largely unintelligible and in distress. Dick called a neighbor who told him to call 911. An ambulance took her to St. Anthony hospital in Lakewood.

The doctors discovered Kris had low blood pressure although her blood pressure was normally high. This was the clue that she was bleeding internally. She went into surgery. She had a rupture in the artery coming from the aorta which had caused the bleeding. The blood had started to clot and the doctors could not drain the fluid around the heart because it was in a gelatinous state. Although they did all they could, in under an hour, Kris passed away.
