Littleton, Colorado - Lanny Earl Ellis, 80, gained his independence from Alzheimer's Disease on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Highline Place, Littleton, Colorado. He was born May 8, 1938 in Trousdale, Kansas to Earl Edward and A. Fern (Asher) Ellis. On May 24, 1964, he married Janice (Dyche) Ellis at The First Christian Church in Pratt.
Lanny graduated from Trousdale High School, received his Associates degree from Pratt Junior College, Bachelor Degree in Education from Fort Hays and then earned his Masters of Science in Mathematics from Fort Hays. He was a math teacher at Cullison, Cunningham, Skyline and then taught Math and Electronics at Pratt Community College for 15 years. He took great pride in his teaching and helped many students relate Algebra to real life. His mantra was ""Never give the answer, help them figure it out on their own."" In 1984, they moved to Colorado where he accepted a position as an Aerospace Engineer for Lockheed Martin. Lanny was a member of Trousdale Methodist Church, Colorado Education Association, National Education Association and BPOE Elks Lodge, Pratt. In his free time he enjoyed doing amateur radio, traveling and nature hikes.
He is survived by his wife, Jan; children, Kim Ellis of Edgewood, New Mexico, Craig Ellis of Littleton, Colorado and Kelly (Kevin) Marks of Littleton, Colorado; grandchildren, Jacqueline Lujan, and Liam and Dillon Marks; and 4-legged, Gaia.
Lanny was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt, Kansas with Pastor Mike McGovney presiding. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.

Memorials may be made to South Central Community Foundation (SCCF) Lanny E. Ellis Fund in care of Larrison Mortuary.
