Larry Clements

Larry L. Clements, 74, a lifelong resident of Lakewood passed away Thursday, August 8, 2013. Larry was born December 28, 1938 in Council Grove, Kansas to Lloyd G. ""Clem"" and Hazel (Ferguson) Clements. He graduated from Alameda High School, received a B.S. degree from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colorado, and received his Masters in Guidance and Counseling from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and a Doctor of Education from Nova University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Larry also served in active duty with the United States Army, and from approximately 875, 000 men was selected as one of the 1, 000 men assigned to duty in the Nation's Capital serving with a Co, 1st Battle group, 3rd Infantry (The Old Guard), Fort McNair, Washington D.C. He was chosen as part of the Honor Guard to guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He was very proud of this. He had a long career in education including teaching Social Studies at Carmody Jr High, Business at Dunstan Jr. High, Guidance & Counseling at Wheat Ridge High School, and Assistant Principal at Creighton Jr. High, Lakewood Jr. High, Evergreen Jr. High and Conifer Jr. High. He retired from Jefferson County Schools in 1994 at the age of 56 after 30 years in education. He and his wife, Jackie, met at Carmody Jr. High and married in March, 1967 in Magnum, Oklahoma. Larry passed away after a long battle with multiple health problems. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 1994. After retiring, he traveled to Europe, Canada, Alaska, Cancun and Hawaii for many years, gardened (every blade of grass had to be the same height), square danced, golfed with his grandchildren, never missed a Bronco game as long as he could go, spent many Fourth of July's in Vail at his time share attending the Betty Ford Amphitheatre Concerts, spent time with his family and friends visiting in the front yard. He was an active member of Applewood Valley United Methodist Church, past member of Kiwanis Club and Rocky Mountain Squares, Parkinson's Disease Foundation, Listen Foundation for Hearing Impaired Children, and former President of Lakewood on Parade (his Dad was the first President). Survivors: Wife, Jackie, one daughter Susan (Kenny) of Flower Mound, TX; one son John (Deidre) of Westminster, CO; four grandchildren: C.J. and Ryan Fusselman and Paden and Kelsey Clements, Nieces Jane, Missy and Nancy, Nephew Steve, Cousins Mike, Kathy and Debbie. Preceded in death by mother and father, Lloyd and Hazel Clements and mother and father-in-law Jack and Lillian Duncan. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, August 15, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Applewood Valley United Methodist Church, 2035 Ellis Street, Golden, Colorado.
