Larry L Novacek

Larry L. Novacek passed away at home on February 2, 2024 in Boulder, CO from Parkinson’s Disease.   Larry was born in Del Norte, CO on August 23, 1943 to Joe and Lucille Novacek, the youngest of four children.  At age six, Larry and his family moved to Golden, CO.

Larry attended Bethlehem Lutheran School in Lakewood through 8^th grade and graduated from Wheatridge High School in 1961.  He completed a major in Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University and graduated with honors in 1965.  After graduation, he accepted a position with Shell Oil and moved to Ventura, CA.

In 1966, he married Vera Glass, formerly of Fort Collins, CO, in Santa Maria, CA.  The couple’s first daughter, Stefanie, was born later that year and a second daughter, Lori, arrived two years later.

Larry specialized in offshore drilling.  Working for Shell, Larry and his family moved to Louisiana, Alaska, and back to Louisiana.   In 1980, Larry and Vera decided they wanted their daughters to attend the same school throughout their high school years.  They returned to their home state of Colorado, settling in Littleton, now Centennial, where the girls both graduated high school.  

Later in his career, Larry worked for Exxon Mobil overseas for over a decade.  Larry and Vera worked and lived in Scotland, Canada, and Qatar.  While overseas, Larry and Vera traveled extensively in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

In retirement, Larry and Vera returned to Littleton, CO, and enjoyed camping, hiking, and their grandchildren.  For the last four years, they have lived at the Frasier Retirement Community in Boulder.

Larry is survived by his wife Vera, his daughter Stefanie Novacek, his daughter Lori (Mike) McCue, and two grandchildren, Arianna McCue and Carson McCue.  He is also survived by his two brothers, Gary Novacek of Wellington and Jerol Novacek of Lakewood.

His service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 12 at Horan & McConaty at 5303 E. County Line Rd., Centennial, CO 80122.  A reception will follow.
