Larry Leroy Scheideman, age 75, died at the Lutheran Hospice Collier Hospice Center, Wheat Ridge, Colorado, on Saturday, November 20, 2021, after an eight year battle with mucosal melanoma.
Born May 16, 1946 in Denver, Colorado, the son of the late Howard and Shirley Scheideman. He grew up in Denver, went to college in Gunnison, and then resided in Lakewood and Arvada. He attended schools in Denver and Westminster and was part of the first graduating class of Ranum High School in 1964. He attended college at Western State College in Gunnison, earning both a BA and MA in biology.
He was employed as a Police Agent/Detective by the Lakewood Police Department from 1972 until his retirement after 30 years in 2002. He remained with the department in a civilian capacity doing forensic computer work for another two years.
Larry was an Eagle Scout and continued in Scouting as an adult as an advisor to the Lakewood Police Department Law Enforcement Explorers, as a Cubmaster for Pack 748 and later a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 748. He served on numerous committees and training staffs for the Timberline District of the Denver Area Council and received the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver awards. He was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow.
He was a member of the Colorado Carvers Club and was a Wood Carving Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts, having served on the staff at two Scout National Jamborees.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Susan Scheideman of Arvada, his son David Scheideman, wife Melissa Fox Scheideman, grandchildren Fayelynn and Rowan Scheideman of Lakewood, and his brothers Glenn Scheideman of Aurora, Karl Scheideman of Montrose, and Kurt Scheideman of Surprise, Arizona.
Services will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 10:00 am, at Horan and McConaty, 3101 South Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, CO 80227. There will be a reception at the same location following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Larry's name to the donor's charity of choice.
