Laura Ellen Callier, artist, writer, and avid researcher committed to social justice and environmental issues, passed away on May 4, 2009 at her father's home in Denver while in the care of the Hospice of St. John. Death was due to ovarian cancer. Born December 18, 1949 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Douglas Rean Callier and Anne Elizabeth Callier (nee Patterson), she is survived by her father, her brother Jeffrey Callier and his wife Kim, and her brother Marc, his wife Jane and their son Patrick. Laura attended schools in Colorado, obtaining advanced degrees from the Uni- versity of Colorado, the University of Denver, and the St. Thomas Theological Seminary. At the time of her death she was working on a research project focusing on the problems faced by non-federally recognized Native Americans. In addition she was writing and illustrating her first children's book. Funeral services will be held 2:00 Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at St. Martin's Chapel of the Cathedral Church of Saint John in the Wilderness, 1350 Washington St., Denver, Colorado. A reception in the Cathedral's Dagwell Hall follows the service.
