Laura Anastina Davies

November 20, 1984 — July 10, 2017

DENVER, COLORADO—Services for Laura Anastina (Mason) Davies will be held Saturday, July 15, at Horan & McConaty Mortuary in Lakewood, Colorado with visitation at 10 am followed by 11 am services with Mark C. Davies and Richard J. Mason officiating. She passed Monday, July 10, at her home following a 3-year battle with cancer. Laura Anastina Mason was born November 20, 1984 in Lubbock, Texas, where she was raised. She was a 2003 graduate of Lubbock High School where she participated in volleyball, student government, and academic pursuits. She co-chaired Lubbock High’s Shattered Dreams program as a senior, and subsequently volunteered in designated driver programs for college students. She attended Mesa State University in Grand Junction, Colorado where she played volleyball until returning to Lubbock to enroll at Texas Tech University following an injury. She received a bachelor of science from Texas Tech’s Health Sciences Center and was a charter member of the first Health Sciences Center graduate class to receive a Doctor of Physical Therapy with honors in 2010. She was active in student government while enrolled at Texas Tech’s Health Sciences Center and also participated with Texas Tech’s club volleyball program. Following graduation, she worked five years for University Medical Center, the hospital in which she was born, as an orthopedic physical therapist, through UMC’s affiliation with the Zach Thomas Fitness Club in south Lubbock where her natural enthusiasm enabled her to establish rapport with patients of all ages undergoing rehabilitation for surgery or athletic injury. Laura was active in the Lubbock sports community as a youth volleyball coach and, later, director of Lubbock Volleyball Club. She was a co-founder of Lubbock Fit, which attracted individuals who had not been physically active for several years into structured activity that enabled many to complete half and full marathons. Laura also completed several marathon length or triathlons in venues around Texas. Laura was married to Jeramy Nathanial Davies May 12, 2007 in Lubbock. Both were avid Texas Tech supporters and annually attended Tech sports events at home and on the road. She was initially diagnosed with cancer in 2014. She and Jeramy moved to Austin in 2016 where Laura worked as a home health physical therapist. Following a second cancer diagnosis, the couple moved to Denver, Colorado where she passed peacefully in their home surrounded by family. She was an active volunteer and advocate for women’s health issues in Austin and Denver. She is survived by her husband, Jeramy, of Lakewood, Colorado; her parents, Richard and Penny Mason of Austin, Texas; a sister, Emily Mason, and brother-in-law, Drew Jensen of College Station, Texas; and, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. The family requests donations in Laura’s name to local women’s health and shelter organizations.
