Laura Jeanette Schwab, age 82, entered eternal rest on October 24, 2024, while being surrounded by family in her Westminster, Colorado home after battling a long fight with Parkinson’s disease/Lewy Body. Laura entered life on February 13, 1942, in Sterling, Colorado to Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Mary Frasca. She grew up on the family farm until the age of eighteen, at which time she would leave the farm to enter nursing school. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, she went into the OBGYN nursing field which she would continue her career in for forty-two years until her well-deserved retirement.
After schooling was finished and Laura was grounded in her nursing career, she married John Horton on December 28, 1966, and later had two children, Michael (late), and Sheila. Laura and John experienced many of life’s firsts together as they built a foundation for their family, having memories being made as their top priority. It was in 1991 that Laura not only lost her husband, but her best friend to the wicked battle of cancer which was fought for six hard years. Laura, devoted and faithful to her two children, continued to raise them alone for the next nine years until they were both grown adults and on their own journey.
On May 30, 2003, Laura would take Jack Schwab’s hand in matrimony and live out the rest of her life with her soulmate, who held her hand until her very last breath. She enjoyed traveling all over the world with Jack and was blessed with experiencing life’s finer things. They danced every weekend and were members of numerous dance clubs throughout the Denver metro area. A weekend was hardly ever missed without dancing being one of their main activities. Laura and Jack also enjoyed regularly cycling together, and I am sure that either one of them could out cycle someone half their age. The two were constantly on the go – just as they preferred. Some of her favorite activities were spending time with her grandchildren/family, listening to music, going to church, spending time with friends, working out both in and out of the gym, watching sports (televised and grandkids), taking day trips to the great Rocky Mountains, shopping, puttering around the house, gardening, and above all, simply being in the presence of her loved ones. Family was Laura’s absolute everything.
Laura is survived by her husband, Jack of Westminster, Colorado; her daughter, Sheila (Steven) of Aurora, Colorado; her stepson, Steve (Melissa) of Franktown, Colorado; her step-daughter, Debbie (Mark) of Zionsville, Indiana; ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Betty (Les) Sessions of Merino, Colorado; Carla (Lynn) Houghton of Penrose, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Marie Frasca, her late husband, John Horton, and her son, Michael Horton.
