Laura A. Turner, 72, died on July 21, 2022, surrounded by her children. This was after a decline in health over the preceding year and a half. She is preceded in death by her nephew James and her grandson Josh. Laura was born Linda Mae Welton to her parents Gladys and Junior Welton in January of 1950. She was the second in a line of five children.
Laura was married at the young age of 16 to her first husband, Danny Pennetta. She had two children right away, Danny Ray and Julie. She divorced at a time when women still had few rights, but she felt she was doing what was right for her children. She was able to spend time with her children as a single mother by running an in-home daycare.
She met her second husband, Frank Bell, when she was in her late 20s. They were married and had her other children, Luke and April. After a few years they were divorced, and Laura continued to run a daycare to support her children without giving up time to be out of the home. She raised her four children with fierce love and devotion. There were difficult times, but Laura was able to push through with the resilience of her pioneer ancestors. Her home was always filled with the laughter of children, the smells of delicious home cooked meals, the power of prayer, and the love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
From 1966 to 2014, Laura ran an in-home daycare. She loved children deeply and always looked for people she could help through her daycare. She was naturally gifted at knowing what children needed to grow up happy and healthy. It is impossible to know just how many children’s lives she was able to influence positively, but the number must be in the hundreds. Each day she would prepare home cooked breakfasts, lunches and two snacks for her daycare kids, and then a home cooked dinner at night for her own kids.
Laura was a master at creating delicious meals, often with little food, or less than optimal food. Each night the family would pray together, and she always asked that God send her people who were less fortunate, whom she might be able to help. God answered that prayer often and she worked hard to serve her fellow man as best as she could. She often held callings in the church. She was the homemaking leader, primary president, primary teacher, young women’s teacher and more. She felt that if she was called to serve, she should answer that call.
She is survived by her children: Danny, Julie, Luke and April; son-in-law, Alan; daughter-in-law, Stephanie; Grandchildren, Jeremy, Kiara and Elora; Great-grandchildren, Carter, Ryder and Jacob; Siblings, Barbara, Larry, Diana and Karen; as well as many nieces and nephews. Laura is loved and will be missed by many.
