Laurel Thomas

Born March 19, 1932, in Milford, Nebraska, Laurel was raised in and attended school Grades 1 through 10 in Danbury, Nebraska. He moved with his parents in June 1948 to Grants Pass, Oregon and graduated from Grants Pass High School in June 1950. The family returned to Danbury following Laurel's high school graduation where he attended McCook Community College for one year before joining the Air Force in April 1952. Laurel Served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and in the Navy Reserve during the Vietnam War. He completed his AA degree at McCook Community College following release from the Air Force and worked a number of years at the McCook Radio Station as a Staff Announcer. Laurel reloacted to the Los Angeles area in 1958 where he worked in the Technical Publications industry as a Technical Writer. In 1960, Laurel moved to Denver, Colorado and remained in the Technical Publications industry as a Technical Writer, Technical Editor and management. He retired after 27 years of service at the Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Facility. Laurel met his dear wife, Marilyn, in Denver in 1961 and was married on Easter Sunday the following year. Some of Laurel's hobbies were flying, boating and music. He really enjoyed his home and his family. Laurel, age 79, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of 49 years; daughter, Andrea (John) Nyuli; son, Greg (Suzanne); grandson, Jackson; brother, Orin; nieces and nephews, Debbie Thomas, Cathy White, Jeff Thomas and Ron Thomas. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 10:00 AM with Memorial Service following at 11:00 AM, both at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 9998 Grant Street, Thornton, Colorado.
