Lauren Atlee Guthrie

Lauren Atlee Guthrie, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025, at the age of 85. Born in Charleston, West Virginia, on October 9, 1939, to Atlee and Ruby Guthrie, Lauren lived a rich and vibrant life filled with love, family, and a passion for sports, cars, fine wine, and clothes.

Raised in Charleston, Lauren attended Stonewall Jackson High School, where he distinguished himself as a standout baseball pitcher. It was there that he met the love of his life, Lane Wookey. The two were married on May 5, 1957, beginning a partnership that would span nearly seven decades. Lauren’s talent on the baseball field earned him a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a four-year letterman in both baseball and squash. After a brief stint in the MLB with the Pittsburgh Pirates, an arm injury cut his promising baseball career short.

After baseball, Lauren embarked on a career in the steel industry, working in New York and settling with his family in New Jersey. Fifty years ago, a business trip to Colorado inspired him to relocate his growing family, where they put down roots in Bow Mar and Columbine. In Colorado, Lauren transitioned to a self-employed career in publishing and advertising before later joining Information Handling Services Company. He embraced the Colorado lifestyle, enjoying golf, skiing, tennis, and cheering on his four sons as they excelled in various sports.

Lauren’s greatest joy came in his later years, when he devoted himself to his ten grandchildren, following them with pride as they pursued their own sports and activities. His unwavering support will always be remembered fondly by his children and grandchildren.

Lauren is survived by his devoted wife, Lane, his four sons: Todd(Amy), Robert(Kara), Lee(Michelle) and Michael(Audra), and his ten cherished grandchildren: Makena, Reagan, Coleman, Keenan, Aiden, Rex, Jackson, Lolagrace, Tanner and Campbell. He leaves behind a legacy of family, love and an appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

A celebration of Lauren’s life will be held on May 3, from 3-5pm at Columbine Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association in the continued fight against Alzheimer’s.
