Laurence Curtis Washington was born in Long Island, NY, to the late Robert M. Washington and the late Freddie F. Washington (née Usry) on April 19th, 1955. He has left behind his sister, Harriet Denise Washington-Blomberg and his cousin, Kalilah Dawn Shelton.
He passed in Strasburg, CO, on February 3rd, 2021.
He received his Master's Degree from Metropolitan State University in Denver, CO. He also worked at Budget Car rental.
Throughout his career he won a number of journalism and writing awards, while also founding the www.blackflix.com website.
Laurence was a writer and journalism professional. While a professor at Metropolitan State University of Denver, many of his students went on to do great things in writing and journalism. He had a great sense of justice and loved the Lord Jesus. He had no children, but was a father in many, many ways to his younger cousin Kalilah Dawn Shelton, who against many odds and challenges has distinguished herself in the US Navy. He was incredibly proud of her.
