Laurence was a writer and journalism professional.  While a professor at Metropolitan State University of Denver, many of his students went on to do great things in writing and journalism.  He had a great sense of justice and loved the Lord Jesus.  He had no children, but was a father in many, many ways to his younger cousin Kalilah Dawn Shelton, who against many odds and challenges has distinguished herself in the US Navy.  He was incredibly proud of her.
