Lavonne Zweygardt was born at home on her parents’ farm in Sherman County Kansas on March 20th, 1935. She was the third child of Emil and Emma Peter. She departed this life on February 19th, 2025, at the age of 89. She was baptized on May 7th, 1935, and received her confirmation at the EUB church in St. Francis, Kansas.
Lavonne attended country schools in Sherman County through the 8th grade. She graduated high school from at St. Francis Community High School in 1953. Lavonne was raised in a loving family with her parents Emil, and Emma and four siblings, Willard, Royce, Dallas and Sherry.
On August 2nd, 1953, she was united in marriage to Delmer Zweygardt, her high school sweetheart. They were married for 68 years until his passing in 2021. They made their home in Burlington Colorado for 33 years, farming and ranching. During their time in Burlington, they had their only child, a son, Dana, who was born on August 24th, 1954. They enjoyed many years as a family and enjoyed traveling until Dana's passing in 2018.
Their first grandchild Janette was born in 1980, followed by Dylan in 1985, and sister Laura in 1994. Becoming a grandma was a joyous event for Lavonne, and her joy was twofold when she became a great grandma to Blayse, Zoey, and Dagon Abeyta, then to Sophie Zweygardt. She enjoyed many fun times with all of her great grandchildren too.
Delmer and Lavonne were members of First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Burlington from 1953, until they moved to the Elizabeth/ Parker area in 1986. When they became members of Joy Lutheran Church in Parker. They remained there until they became founding members of Spirit of Hope Lutheran church in 2012. Lavonne remained a faithful member of Spirit of Hope until her passing. She will be greatly missed by her family as well as her church family.
Funeral Services will be February 28th at 11 am at Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church in Parker Colorado. Followed by graveside service in St. Francis Kansas on March 1st at 11am MST, 12 CST.
