Larry Bachman was born at home in Ottumwa, Iowa to Mabel and Archie Bachman on August 28, 1931 and lived there with his folks and younger brother until he was out of the 5th grade. The family moved around the country the next 3 years as his dad took on different electrician jobs. They settled in Longmont Colorado in time for Larry to spend his 4 high school years there and he graduated from Longmont High School in spring of 1950. He spent two years in the US Army, mustering out in January 1953. He met his future wife, Leona Mundt, at a local roller skating rink in 1954 and they were married on Larry's 24th birthday in 1955. The young couple moved between Longmont and Fort Collins for a short while until settling in Longmont for 17 years. In that time, Larry and Leona had 4 children, Bryan (Amy), Jackie Prue (Chuck), Chris, and Shawn. As well as 5 grandchildren Heather Prue, Kathryn, Cynthia, Brenden, and Jadon Bachman. Larry worked for various companies from 1954 until 1997. He was a talented machine designer and draftsman, and spent the largest part of his career in aerospace companies in the Colorado front range. He retired in 1997 and spent many years involved with the day care center Leona (Noni) owned and operated and in helping with the grandkids. Larry loved the outdoors and travel and spent much of his spare time fishing, hunting, and camping as a youngster. After marriage, Larry and Leona travelled by car and camper with the family for many years in the western US and one long trip into Canada and the US northwest with the 4 kids and the family dog. Almost every evening there had to be water nearby for a bit of fishing with the kids. Larry was proud to make 50 and even 60 year wedding anniversaries with his wife Leona. Parkinson's disease and dementia reduced his tall frame and slowed his walk and movements over the last 10 years and he passed away early on June 7th, 2016. His sons Chris (1992) and Shawn (2012) both preceded him in death and their passing had a great impact on him and we believe there has been a happy reunion in the past few days.
