Lawrence L. Ring

January 10, 1933 — January 11, 2019

Lawrence LeRoy Ring “Larry” passed away Friday January 11, 2019 at the age of 86. He was born January 10, 1933 in Crawford Nebraska, he was the son of the late Albert Lawrence and Ruth Johnson Ring.

Larry is survived by his wife Delores “Dorie”; his sons David and his wife Linda of Thornton, CO, Richard “Rick” and his wife Julie Carey Ring of Lacey, WA, and Andrew of Denver, CO; his sisters Barbara Colberg of Littleton, CO and Sharon Longo of Arvada, CO; his grandchildren Letha Ring, Krista (Patrick) Myhaver, Jill Ring, April Carey (Robert) Fresh, Donnie Carey, Sara Roper (Jason) Sledge, and Matt Roper; his great-grandchildren Tiffany Goodman, David “3D” Goodman III, Taylor Myhaver, Maci Myhaver, Logan Myhaver, Sully Peer, Ricki Peer, Jett Peer, Kevin Fresh, Jacob Fresh, Ryan Fresh, Clark Sledge, Coraline Sledge, Calvin Sledge, and Maraeli Roper.

Preceded in death by his parents & brothers David Lance at the age of 19 Months and Albert Lynn at the age of 73.

His family moved to Colorado in 1942. He lived and went to school in the Wheat Ridge, CO area. He was a hard worker and went to work at the age of 12 at Lakeside Amusement Park on the pony track and continued to work there up into the 1970's. Larry was the oldest of his family and loved his brothers and sisters.

It was at Lakeside that he met his soon to be bride. He worked on the boat dock and Dorie worked in the concession where Larry would eat lunch and Dorie added extra meat to his sandwiches. The bus stopped running when Dorie and a friend got off work, so Larry offered to drive them home. One night Larry told Dorie as she got into the car, he would be dropping her off last. That was the beginning of a 66 year marriage. They were married in 1952.

He served 3 years in the Colorado National Guard. He was a painter and musician. Having his own music studio and store. He played Santa Clause for several years at North Valley Mall. His granddaughter Letha did not cry at all to sit on Santa's lap. He started losing his eye sight in 1975. Received his 1st Guide Dog, Gordon in 1987. In 22 years he had a total of 3 Guide Dogs: Gordon, Howie, and Garrison which he loved dearly. They gave him new freedom to take the bus down to Folklore Center and to volunteer at grade schools to talk about the blind. He was also active in the National Federation for the Blind. He loved music of all types but his favorite was Jazz. He played his guitars and harmonica daily. His great-grandson Logan, at 3 years old, would even play harmonica with him, imitating the notes.

Larry loved to tell all of the girls and ladies "" You look beautiful today."" Granddaughter Jill said she was about 15 years old before she realized he could not see her!

He loved the Colorado Rockies, Denver Broncos, the Colorado Avalanche, but most of all his family.

Memorial Services will be held February 22, 2019 at 11AM, with a light lunch following services at Horan McConaty, 9998 Grant St. Thornton, CO 80229. Interment in Highland Cemetery 10201 Grant St. Thornton CO, 80229.
