YORDY, LEAH Leah Yordy died on December 20 at the Julia Temple Center in Englewood at age 97. Born in Kansas as the youngest of a large family, she was predeceased by all of her ten sibling. She married Alvin Yordy in 1929 in Hesston, Kansas, her hometown. They moved to Denver in 1936, where her husband was a principal with the Denver Public Schools until his retirement in 1967. He died in 1979. She is survived by daughter, Phyllis Armstrong of Frisco and Denver and son Karl Yordy, and daughter-in-law Joyce of Tucson, Arizona, as well as by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. As the last of her generation, she kept in touch with a large number of nieces and nephews throughout the country. Before she was married, she taught in a one room rural school in Kansas. She was very active in the Washington Park United Methodist Church, which she joined in 1936, and she volunteered for many other organizations, including the PTA, the United Church Women and the Women's Job Corps and the League of Women Voters. She had an abiding interest in music, singing in church choirs and other groups for most of her life. She loved the mountains of her adopted state. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, January 5 at Washington Park United Methodist Church, 1955 E. Arizona Ave., in Denver, 80210.
