It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Dr. Lemuel T. Moorman, who departed from this world peacefully on February 19, 2025 at the age of 98. He was born on April 29, 1926, in Florence, South Carolina and lived in the South while he completed his medical degree through Wake Forest (graduating in 1948) until he joined the Navy in 1949 at the age of 22. In completing naval service in 1957, he moved his family to Denver, CO in 1958 and set up a new and successful career in Ophthalmology.
Lemuel was known for his remarkable and dedicated career as a retinal surgeon; his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were taught by or treated by him as a physician. His groundbreaking surgeries and dedication to a career he loved, saved the vision of many patients, and paved the way for future ophthalmologists to continue important treatments for the patients he served. Following retirement, Lemuel loved to spend time on the golf course or reading a good book about history. His favorite pastime, however, was visiting with friends and family while enjoying a favorite meal and conversation.
Lemuel was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who treated every day as a gift. He was a source of inspiration and strength to his loving family and friends and will be profoundly missed. May he rest in eternal peace and know that he was and will be forever loved by his wife and children. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Mrs. Kathleen Moorman, his children; Lemuel (Linda, deceased) Moorman Jr., Rosalind (Dirk) Stauthamer, Vance (Shelly) Moorman, Tiare (David) Smith, Timothy (Kendra Bench) Hogan, and Elizabeth (Matthew) Hogan. He is also survived by his Grandchildren; Claytie, Lily, Rosemary, Joseph, Ann, Zach, Archie, Griffin, Orin, Vivian, Liam and four great-grand children.
A private family memorial service to celebrate Lemuel’s life will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation in Dr. Lemuel T Moorman's honor at www.macular.org. A donation can also be mailed to P.O. Box 515 Northampton, MA 0106-055
