Lena Lovato Archuleta

July 25, 1920 — April 3, 2011

Lena Lovato Archuleta taught in the classrooms of New Mexico and Colorado for over thirty years. The last fourteen years she served as an administrator in the Denver Public Schools. She retired as principal of Fairview Elementary School. In the community, Archuleta served on the Rude Nursery Board, the Acquisitions Committee of the Denver Public Library, Denver Foundation's Hope for Generations Committee and 9 Health Fair's Community Outreach Committee. Archuleta was one of the Founders of Mi Casa Resource Center and the Latin American Research and Service Agency. For six years, Archuleta served on the national board of AARP, the last two years as Vice-President. She was active with AARP following and advocating on state and national issues. Among the honors presented Mrs. Archuleta are Regis University Civis Princeps Citation, Leadership in Education and Distinguished Graduate of the University of Denver, Girl Scouts Women of Distinguished Award and a service award from Boy Scouts of Denver. In 2010 the Denver Public Schools dedicated a new elementary school which carries her name. Lena L. Archuleta was married for fifty-five years to Juan U. Archuleta. He passed away November 3, 1992. She is survived by five nephews, Larry, Tony, Chris, Greg and Steve Smith and one niece, Susan Stricklin from Albuquerque and Illinois respectively and a large group of nephews and nieces of the Archuleta family.
