Lenora Coats Avery

June 6, 1915 — August 3, 2019

Lenora Woodworth Coats Avery was born on June 6, 1915 in Joplin, Missouri to Lewis Edwin Woodworth and Katherine Bishoff Woodworth. She was the second oldest of four girls; Juanita Mae, Inez Onita, and Martha Dorcus.

Both of Lenora's parents had died from ""black lung"" disease by the time she was 8. She went to Newton, Kansas to live with her Uncle Henry and Aunt Lula. Her Aunt Lula had a niece, Maude Coats and husband, Walter Coats, who were farmers around Plains, Kansas. Lenora eventually went to live with them and they legally adopted her in 1926.

Lenora attended Fort Hays Kansas State College in Hays, Kansas where she obtained a degree in Business Education. One afternoon while walking down the sidewalk on campus she met Everett Avery. They were married June 11, 1939, and were married 62 years when Everett died in 2001.

Lenora and Everett had two children; Norman (Eleanor) Avery, and Bonnie Avery (Ken) Milano. She had one granddaughter, Angela Breanne Milano.

After graduating from college, she was a high school business teacher; but she spent most of her married years alongside Everett in the municipal accounting firm Everett owned in Larned, Kansas. In Larned, Lenora was active in the United Methodist Church, and enjoyed time with both her sewing and bridge clubs. She was always available to help with youth activities at both church and school.

After retiring in 1981, they moved to Heather Gardens Adult Community in Aurora, Colorado. They became active members of the Heather Gardens Chapel. They were active in square dancing and ballroom dancing and Lenora once again continued her enjoyment for the game of bridge.

Six years after Everett passed, in 2007, Lenora moved to the Dayton Place Senior Living community where she lived until her death on August 3, 2019.

Lenora lived well her 104 years- guided by her strong faith in God and His Son.
